Overview

The Business Intelligence Director is a strategic role that reports directly to the SVP of Business Applications. This position is crucial in defining and executing the company’s business intelligence strategy. The manager will be responsible for translating complex data into clear insights that drive business decisions, ensuring that the BI strategy aligns with the company’s goals and objectives.

 

In collaboration with database developers, support team members, and business users, the Business Intelligence Director will spearhead initiatives to enhance data-driven decision-making across the organization. They will play a key role in articulating the BI vision, managing the BI team, and working closely with stakeholders to identify and meet their data analysis needs. This role demands a leader who is not only technically proficient but also possesses strong communication skills to bridge the gap between data and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute BI strategies with a focus on Power BI and SQL-driven analytics.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and deliver robust BI solutions.
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable BI systems, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data reporting.
  • Champion the use of Power BI and SQL in creating advanced analytics and business intelligence reports.
  • Promote data literacy and a data-driven decision-making culture across the organization.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for agencies seeking BI assistance.
  • Thoroughly analyze, troubleshoot, and identify the best solution for the reported request.
  • Serve as escalation point within Jira for the support team on BI tickets.
  • Collaborate with internal team to determine the best solution as needed.
  • Provide the internal team with feedback or suggestions received from end users.
  • Clearly and effectively walk the user through the solution using appropriate communication channels (ie: ticketing system, schedule a call).
  • Comprehensively track and document ticket events, problems and resolutions.
  • Ensure assigned tickets are resolved in an effective and timely manner.
  • As applicable, follow-up with user to ensure solution has resolved the request.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Very strong knowledge of SQL and database design principles.
  • Expertise in Power BI, including DAX, data modeling, and visualization best practices.
  • Proven track record of leading BI projects and teams to successful outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights for all levels of the organization.
  • Strong background in financial reporting projects having accounting systems as data sources
  • Excellent customer service skills: ability to form relationships both externally and internally.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work creatively in problem solving environment.
  • Working knowledge of other Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint).Excellent written and spoken English skills.

In order to comply with equal pay and salary transparency laws in various locations, we believe the target range of base compensation in New York City for this role is $100,000 - $180,000. Actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and location.
